The Mental Cast

In this episode, Dan has a conversation with Erik Weiss.  Erik is a Little League umpire based in Stockton California.  We have had a lot of coaches and athletes on the show and thought it would be awesome to have an umpire on.  We talk about what it is like being a Little League umpire, dealing with the stress, the mental skills required, and the launch of his podcast "The Umpire Strikes Back" (link is below).  It was a great chat and full of amazing nuggets of information.

This episode is a blast.  Dan has a "sit down" with the always entertaining DJ (Jeremy) Roueche.  DJ Roueche is the current DJ for the Los Angeles Lakers, the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour, and one of the DJs for the Rio Beach Olympic games.  DJ Roueche is also 1/2 of the Suicide Doors, an amazing band based in the L.A. area.  They talk about life choices and crazy journeys.
A note from Dan: "DJ Roueche is such an awesome guy and an even better human being.  I have had the pleasure of playing sitting volleyball with him for the past 5 years, and it was great to have him on the back-to-back National Championship team.  We talk about how his crazy life even happened, those forks in the road that changed his life, and of course the gold medals we share.  It was a great chat!"

This episode has Dan "sitting down" for a chat with Kyle Wagner.  Kyle is a former standout high school baseball player who went on to play Division 1 baseball at Wake Forrest and a year in the pros.  Kyle was part of the historic 2015 Red Land Little League team that went on to win the United States Championship.  This is a chat that Dan has been wanting to have for a long time.  It is a great conversation about coaching youth and keeping sports fun.
A note from Dan: "I had the pleasure of going to high school and watching the 1990 Red Land HS team win a state championship.  Watching the progress of the RL Little League team in 2015 was amazing.  Kyle is always posting amazing coaching and education tips, and I knew I had to sit down with him. I hope everyone enjoys this as much as I do.  I can't wait to have him back on another episode.

In this second episode of season two, Dan "sits" down and chats with his good friend Jen Fry.  Jen is currently a Ph.D. student at Michigan State in Geography.  She travels the country (and the world) to spread the word about social justice education.  In a nutshell, she gets you uncomfortable to make you better.  This is a very candid talk on a lot of topics.  It is always a great time to catch up with Jen.

Coaching burnout is one of the topics I seem to talk about most when I am working with coaches and managers.  A lot of people seem to know the end stages of coaching burnout but may not realize the early warning signs or ways to combat it.  In this episode, we look at some of the root causes as well as some strategies to help you avoid burnout.  It is not an uncommon thing and there are some easy ways to help you avoid it.  We hope you enjoy the episode!

Part businessman, part dart player, and a lot less of him now.  In this episode, we talk with the local proprietor of Reeser's Soft Ice Cream, Mr. Donald Reeser Jr.  This is part one of a three-part series on Donnie.  We chat in the parking lot of our favorite local food establishment, Nick's 114.  Part one deals with his business life and the mental challenges of a small business owner.  In part two we chat about his weight loss journey (which has been amazing), and in the final part, we discuss his alter-ego "Grimm Reeser" the high-level dart player.
